St Mary's Church

Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament: Kilmacanogue - First Wednesday of each month in St Mochonog's Church, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; Enniskerry - After 10.15 a.m. Mass each Friday morning in St Mary's Church.

Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima: Come to the Church of Laurence O'Toole, Roundwood, Co. Wicklow, to honour Our Lady. Ceremonies are held on the 13th of each month to October from midday to 4.30 p.m. Bus Enquiries to 01 281 8119; all other inquiries to 01 280 6677.

Celebrating 160 years of St Mary's Church: This September will be a very special occasion for St Mary's Church, Enniskerry as it celebrates 160 years. Plans for this occasion are well under way with a number of events planned including a history talk by Michael Seery on Friday the 20th entitled 'Fr Thomas O'Dwyer and the building of his church at Enniskerry', a Flower Festival and a special Family Mass to be held on Sunday, September 22.

Legion of Mary - Kilmacanogue Presidium: Meet at 11.30 a.m. every Tuesday in the sacristy of St Mochonog's. New members are most welcome. Group recite the Rosary on the first Saturday of each month at midday at the Grotto in the church grounds. Click on the link legionofmary.ie to view website.

History Society

Meetings of the Enniskerry History Society, which meets under the guidance of its president John Callan, are scheduled to resume on Thursday, October 10, at 8.30 p.m. in the Powerscourt Arms Hotel.In the meantime events two events taking place today (Wednesday) are - between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. the Genealogical Society of Ireland Research Centre, An Daonchartlann, located in the grounds of Loughlinstown Leisure Centre, Loughlinstown Drive, Loughlinstown, Co. Dublin, will be open to the public while at 1 p.m. there is a free guided Public Tour in the Chester Beatty Library, Dublin Castle, Dame Street, Dublin two. Opening hours for the library on Church Road, Enniskerry, are - Tuesday and Friday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.; Wednesday: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 6.30 p.m. to 8.30 p.m., and Saturday: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. New members to the library are always very welcome. A Craft Fair takes place in the Parochial Hall, Enniskerry on Sundays from 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Enniskerry 75

Over the weekend of Saturday/Sunday, August 12/13,1944 two Dublin scouts, D Byrne, Violet Terrace, Terenure, and J Edmunds, Riverside Grove, Kimmage, after climbing the 200 foot high Powerscourt waterfall cliff found that they were unable to progress further or descend so remained on a cliff ledge for several hours till their plight was noticed.

Once alerted, Mr PC Scott, warden at the Baden Powell Camp, Powerscourt, assisted by Mr W.L Lee, demesne head gardener, with a number of other helpers, brought the boys to safety using ropes with Mr Scott descending by rope to the cliff ledge where the boys were.

BINGO

Fun Bingo will take place on in the Annamoe Centre on Sunday, September 9, from 3 p.m. Family members and friends are more than welcome to attend. €5 per book and great raffle prizes. Come along and enjoy.

BRIDGE

Diamond Bridge Club reopens on Monday, September 9, in Roundwood Community Hall. Visitors and new members always welcome. ACTIVE RETIREMENT TRIP

SUNSHINE FITNESS

THURSDAY YOGA

Yoga classes will resume on Thursday, September 12, from 7.30 p.m. to 9: 00 p.m in Roundwood Parish Centre. They will run continuous each Thurs. till end of November. Class will include: Asana-Physical exercises to stretch and strengthen body. Pranayama-Breathing exercises. Relaxation - Release of tension. MONEYSTOWN DANCE

The Wicklow Man will play in Moneystown Community Centre on Friday, September 6, from 9.30 p.m. till 12. Tea served, refreshments also available, door prizes. Come along and enjoy a night of waltzing, jive, linedancing, etc.

MAYO MUSIC BREAK

A six-day music break tour to Westport takes place on Sunday, October 20, and will leave Roundwood Parish Hall at 9 a.m. and will return on Friday, October 25. There will be music on Sunday night with Robert Mizzell, Monday, Ger Long, Tuesday, Stuart Moyles, Wednesday, Carmel McLaughlin, and Thursday Declan Nerney. There will be visits to Achill Islan, Galway, Doogh Lough Valley and Leenane with a free day on the Wednesday. All in price for dinner, bed and breakfast is €425 per person sharing with €90 single room deposit of €200 to be paid as soon as possible to book your place. CHILDBIRTH WORKSHOP

Gentle Birth Childbirth Education Workshop in Roundwood, Saturday, September 7'19, 9 a.m. 6 p.m. in Roundwood Parish Hall, with an hour for lunch and other breaks. This is a 1-Day in-person workshop experience for two people (Mom and Birth Partner). MENS SHED

Roundwood Men's Shed: The Shed is open every Tuesday from 10 a.m. to midday at Pat Carr's place in Knockraheen. With all the cake and biscuits it may not be the best place to 'shed' a few pounds but we are learning to control our intake of sugary 'stuff'. Of course there are very healthy vegetables available in our garden. So you will be assured of a very warm welcome if you are free to drop in. Ring 086 8650588 for further information.

BADMINTON

Roundwood Badminton resumed in Aras an Tochar after the summer break on Monday, September 2, at 7.30 p.m. and continues every Monday and Wednesday throughout the winter months. We hope to see all our members back in form for another season and also would love to see any new people who would like to join us, social members are very welcome. Don't worry if you don't have a racket, one can be supplied on the night.

ROUNDWOOD DANCE

There will be a dance in Roundwood Parish Centre on Friday, September 20, with music by the Wicklow Man.

MUSIC IN CALARY

At 8 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, Mia Cooper (violin), Beth McNinch (viola) and Bill Butt (Cello) from Musici Ireland will play a concert including the following pieces - Reger String Trio 77b and the Mozart String Trio KV563. This is a wonderful opportunity to hear this music played by world class musicians.

On Sunday, September 15, at 8 p.m., the Delmaine String Quartet together with Michael James Ford, Clodagh Mooney and Elliott Moriarty will perform Magic in My Eyes. This is an an exploration in words and music of one the most complicated romances in literary history - Thomas Hardy's marriage to Emma Gifford, which went from early rapture to ultimate estrangement, but which inspired some of the greatest love poetry in the English language. Magic in My Eyes charts the course of this turbulent love story through Hardy's verse and journals, along with Emma's letters and recollections.

The Delmaine Quartet have selected music that reflects this complex emotional landscape, drawn primarily from the lyrical, multi-layered chamber works of the brilliant, yet relatively unknown English composer, Frank Bridge (1879 - 1941) Tickets are €18 and €15 for concessions and, for further information or to book tickets, please ring John at 01 2818146 or email derekneilson@eircom.net.
