Harbour Bar launches whiskey
The Harbour Bar had a celebration night last week to mark the arrival of their specially commissioned single cask release with Powers whiskey.
They invited friends and associates to taste the whiskey and celebrate the new initiative by the local bar.
There was a great turnout for the event, with proprietors Conor and Nicola Duggan welcoming their guests.
The 12 year single pot still was exclusively bottled for the Harbour Bar, and a bottle can be picked up there for €165.
Cask No 44600, hand selected by Powers Master Blenders David McCabe and Billy Leighton, is a 12 year old matured in a first filled American bourbon barrel. Yielding just 265 bottles, this unique and very special whiskey is only available at The Harbour Bar.
According to the producers, the nose has 'confectionery sweetness with orange zest and fresh notes of melon and green banana while earthy woodland notes along with cedarwood and pine linger in the background over pot still spices and a mild nuttiness.'
When it comes to taste, they say 'the initial pot still spices softly give way revealing the signature mouth-coating texture with the honeyed fruit character continuously building while the American charred oak intensifies the sweet attributes with waves of toffee and vanilla.'
The finish is 'full and rich with the oak lingering until the end before finally giving way to grains of barley'.
