Time to fire up vintage engines

West Wicklow will be filled with the soothing purr of engines as the eighth annual Baltinglass classic car and motorcycle run takes place this Sunday, August 13.

The run, which is organised by the West Wicklow Classic and Vintage Vehicle Club with support from many other clubs and sponsors will this year be helping out two very deserving local causes: Solas Dunlavin and West Wicklow Day Care Centre. Organisers say they chose these organisations as they both do amazing work for some of the most deserving members of the community in west Wicklow.

The event has grown steadily in popularity since the very first run in 2010. Last year saw an entry of 137 vehicles, which travelled from all over Ireland to take part and contribute to a very successful and enjoyable day.

A new feature for this year will be an indoor auto jumble and trade area.

Vehicles with 1987 registration plates will be especially welcome as it is the 30th anniversary of the introduction of the new type of number plate. There will be extra prizes for vehicles in this category.

To mark 100 years of Ford in Ireland, there will be prizes for Fords in three categories.

Of course, makes and models of all ages are welcome as always and there will be prizes for Best Classic Car, Best Motorcycle, Best 4x4, Furtherst Travelled and the Katriona Deevy Memorial Cup for Clubs.

Registration will take place from 11.30 a.m. with the run starting at 2 p.m. The entry fee is €20 which includes a meal, free drivers' draw, fun competition, souvenir and goodie bag. The vehicles will be on display in the town from early on Sunday morning until the run begins.
