John delighted to survive battle and advance to Voice live show
Arklow singer John Hogan Jr came one step closer to attaining a record contract as he advanced to the live shows of 'The Voice of Ireland.'
On the hit reality TV show last Sunday, John emerged victorious from a battle with fellow Team Dolores member Nella Dwyer to progress to the live rounds of the competition.
Team Dolores – which then consisted of 11 members –was divided into four pairings and a group of three who battled it out to progress to the next stage of the competition.
Both John and Nella were tasked with singing the REM classic 'Losing My Religion' after which their coach Dolores O'Riordan chose John.
'I felt confident all the way through; I knew I had done a reasonably good performance,' John told the Wicklow People. 'I did enough to get through to the live shows and got some really great feedback from the judges, so I was delighted.'
He was especially pleased given the less than ideal build-up to the battle he had to undergo, hampered by illness and a decision to change the key of the song.
'While I was rehearsing for the battle I had a chest infection and they decided to change the key from A Minor up to B Minor,' he said. 'I found it a bit tough at the start.'
But despite these setbacks, he managed to pull through, and is now hoping that the live shows will further assist him in bringing his music to the masses.
'It feels great from the point of view of getting the exposure for the fact that I'm a singer-songwriter,' he claimed. 'Any plugs on that front help!'
