Americana Roots Festival embraces canine friends

The fourth Americana Roots Festival is reaching out to man's best friend this year, as the Annual Dog Awareness Day and Dog Show will take place on Sunday August 4 in the field at the rear of the Beach House, Greystones Harbour, from 2pm to 5pm.

The show is being run in conjunction with the Americana & Roots Music festival in Greystones. This year's festival spans the entire weekend and features an outstanding line-up of over 30 performing artists, with the music spread across three different stages in the Beach House and best of all, admission is free to all music gigs, making this a one-of-a-kind Co. Wicklow event.

A live gig will take place in the field immediately after the dog show. The event is being run by The Americana Roots festival committee consisting of Ciarán Hayden, Terry Cullen and Conor O'Donnell, with the kind assistance of well-known dog show organiser Jon Jameson.

This year the hugely popular dog show will feature bouncy castles, face painting and many more activities for the children that attend. Of course the day is really about our canine friends and this year the show's organiser Jon Jameson promises it to be better than ever with six categories up for grabs including Best in Show, Reserve Best in Show, Agility Champion and Best Rescue Dog.

It is hoped to promote dog awareness in the community and highlight the need for dog owners to be responsible particularly while exercising their pets in public. Free pooper scooper bags will be available on the day and local vets will also be in attendance to give out free advice.
