St Pat's salvage draw
ST PAT'S had to call their big name players off the bench to salvage a draw against the Plunketts as they leapfrogged the O'Mahonys to return to the top of division 1.
The holders rested many of their regular starters with Paddy Keenan, Paudie Mallon, Ray Finnegan and Karl White all named as substitutes for this clash in Lordship against the bottom side, Oliver Plunketts.
Indeed the Plunketts will kick themselves they didn't come away with full points having raced into an early lead as the Pats team tried to find their feet.
The Drogheda side were six points to no score up after 25 minutes with Cian Matthews and Gary Keogh amongst the scorers for the Plunketts.
A treble substitution saw Keenan, Paudie and Finnegan enter the fray with the Pats management realising they had a challenge on their hands if they were to peg back the Plunketts.
Going into the final five minutes Pats lead 0-9 to 0-8 but they were dealt a blow when referee Kevin Carroll sent off Eoin O'Connor. Pats tried desperately to hold on in the closing minutes but the Plunketts grabbed a deserved equalising score when substitute Pat Murtagh popped up to grab a late point.
