A gr-eight display from Rock

Rock Celtic 8 Ardee Celtic 0

Rock ended a poor run of form in some style, trouncing basement side Ardee 8-0 on Friday night at Sandy Lane.

The seasider shipped eight goals themselves in their previous encounter against Parkvilla and this result perhaps epitomises the big gulf between the leading teams in the premier division and the rest.

It was defeat number eight on the spin for the Ardonians, who still have nothing to show for their efforts in what is becoming a thoroughly miserable season propping up the table.

Evergreen striker David Ward sent Rock on the road to victory with two goals in the opening 30 minutes as he went on to bag four.

At that juncture the points were secured with Jamie McCaul combining with Man of the Match Sean Hande to cut open the visitors defence down the right and the latter darted inside the box and finished from a tight angle five minutes from the break.

Whatever hope Ardee had of mounting a fight back was extinguished altogether two minutes into the second-half when Hande made a great run out of defence and linked up with McCaul again near half way for the latter to curl a lovely ball in behind the Ardee defence for Ward to collect and tucked it inside the near post.

The same trio was involved as Ward made it 5-0 seven minutes later and with good night's work accomplished he could take an early rest.

Ardee were handed a chance to at least put some semblance of respectability on the score line, but Bryan O'Connor tamely sent a spot kick wide.

Hande adorned an excellent display with a second goal and Rock's sixth when he dispossessed a defender on the edge of the 18 yard box and coolly shot low to the net.

Kerr who replaced Ward, netted within seven minutes of his introduction, and fellow substitute Ronan Sands completed the rout three minutes from time.
