The boys 'Dun' well in Offaly

DUNDEALGAN AC athletes, Samuel Fasan, Tosin Bankole, Shadam Azeez and Connor McCarron were in action at the National Juvenile u-12 to u-19 Track and Field Championships held over a two-day event in Tullamore last weekend.

Samuel Fasan, who has been out of competition due to his Leaving Cert Exams, gave a fine performance in the u-19 100m to finish in 5th position. He will compete in the u-19 200m and long jump on day 4 of the Championships on 21st July. Tosin Bankole competing in the u-17 shot produced a good effort but was outside medal position.

Shadam Azeez put in an excellent performance in the u-16 long jump, he was in 2nd position going into the final round and just finished outside the medals in 4th place, a great result in his first national competition. He will return on the 21st July to compete in the u-16 200m.

Connor McCarron who only recently took up shot, had his first competition at the Louth Championships when he won silver medal and repeated this result at the Leinster Championships, which secured his place for the Nationals. His commitment and dedication paid off when he finished in 2nd place at national level, claiming a silver medal, with a PB throw of 11.76m in the u-13 shot. To the delight of the coaches and the club, Connor is the first National medal winner since the club rejuvenated two years ago.

On Tuesday last, in very wet weather conditions, the first round of the Summer League was held at Bush track. Undeterred by the weather Fiachra McCormack ran well in the u-10 300m. Our other athlete, Shadam Azeez who braved the rain, was 1st in the u-16 long jump and gave a good performance in the u-16 800m to finish in 5th place, in what was his first attempt at this distance.

Training every Wednesday night 6.45-8.00pm for boys/girls aged 7 upwards at The Marist grounds.
