Men's Shed make it two-in-a-row

The rain failed to dampen the spirits of those who gathered for the 18th annual raft race in Blackrock on Sunday.
Twenty-five teams competed in this hotly contest fun event, sponsored by Brendan Watters Insurance, which was run over three heats and a final.
For the second year in a row, the Men's Shed team emerged as winners, with the Fairways Hotel as runners-up and Clogherhead Coast Guards in third place. Moran's Mariners, led by Senator Mary Moran, won the prize for the best-dressed team.
'We had a very good attendance considering the weather,' said Larry Magnier of Blackrock Tidy Towns which organised the event. 'There was a huge crowd for the raft race itself on Sunday morning and the rain held off until it was almost over. A lot of people came back in the afternoon for the other events which were successful.'
Dundalk Brass Band entertained the crowds with a concert at the sun dial, while there were lots of entries for the sand castle competition. The schools talent competition also proved very successful.
Thanking all those who attended the events, Larry said that it is the biggest fund-raiser of the year for Blackrock Tidy Towns who do trojan work in keeping the village looking well.
'There was a great buzz in the village and everyone enjoyed themselves despite the rain.'
