Irelands' eyes are smiling as they land cup

DUNDALK Young Irelands enjoyed a solid victory over their town neighbours Sean O'Mahony's in this Under-13 Division 2A decider, played at the Darver Centre of Excellence.

A rock-solid defence, dominant midfield section and an eager, score-hungry forward line set out their stall from the word go and the Young Irelands team swept into an early lead, one which they never looked likely to relinquish.

They had the bulk of the play and were well ahead at the end of the first half, having been able to match the O'Mahony's points with goals.

O`Mahony's, as expected, put up a very determined effort in the second half, but didn't possess the same height and power of the Young Irelands which was a major factor in their victory.

The eventual losers did gain considerably more possession in the second half following some tactical changes, but found the defence difficult to penetrate and Irelands were in no mood to surrender their lead at any stage.

Afterwards, the Minor Board chairman presented the Division 2A trophy to Cian O`Donoghue captain of the Dundalk Young Irelands squad who prevailed with a great team performance, while best on the day for O'Mahony's were Luke Savage, Kyle McCormack, Alan Carr and Conor Mackin.

DUNDALK YOUNG IRELANDS: Ufi Kwelele; Calum McCabe, Eoin Murphy, Enobu Kwelwle; Cian O`Donoghue, Mark Kilgallon, Alan Fee, Kizoto Ekwucem; David Odumosy; Jay O'Hagan, Damien Mullen; Peter McStravick; Jamie Browne, James Prendergast, Sean Laverty. Subs: James Downey, Lucas Kwelele.
