Ominous display from the champions
Division 1 FL: Newtown Blues 2-18 Geraldines 0-6
Newtown Blues turned in one of the most impressive displays of the opening day of the season as they easily accounted for the Geraldines at Haggardstown on Sunday afternoon.
This was expected to be a keenly contested affair but in truth the writing was on the wall for the home side from the opening exchanges as the Blues took complete control.
Overall the Gers were very disappointing and had no answer to the Blues scoring power as Ross Nally and Conor Branigan found the net for the visitors.
Spurred on by a fine display from Andy McDonnell, the Blues were in fine form from the opening whistle and it was Nally who raised the first green flag to see his side lead by 1-10 to 0-1 at half time.
The Haggardstown side did improve in the second period but not sufficiently to ask any serious questions of the visitors despite Conor Rafferty leading the charge with five points.
The Blues continued to create numerous chances and added eight points to their tally while Branigan scored a second goal to complete the win.
