Malachi secure status with win over Mitchels
Division 3A/3B - Naomh Malachi 0-14, John Mitchels 0-10
Naomh Malachi secured their Division 3A status for another season after coming through their play-off final against John Mitchels on Saturday evening.
There was little between the teams for much of the hour at Ballybailie but the visitors had the slight edge in the second half as they came out winners by four points.
It was a disappointing end to an encouraging season for the Mitchels as they will feel it is a game they could have won. However, they will take great encouragement from their performances in Division 3B and will hope to build on that next season.
The scoring power of Collie Rooney was once again instrumental for the Mals and his points helped ensure that the teams went in level at the break at five points apiece.
The visitors had that little bit more quality in front of the posts in the second half with Rooney again to the fore as they went on to claim victory.
Padraig Moley, Jamie Kelly, Pearse Caherty and Jack Kirwan also contributed vital points on the night.
The Mitchels battled throughout but were just unable to deny the Malachis despite points from Robbie Coyle, John Gallagher, Mikey Nulty, Kevin Gallagher and Trevor Matthews.
