Early goals set Emmets on path to easy victory

GLEN Emmets became the first team to record a league victory in 2013 when they accounted for Westerns in Tullyallen on Friday night.

Although the Emmets emerged comfortable winners, it was the Reaghstown men who opened the scoring with an early point.

However, the home side settled into their rhythm and grabbed the lead on seven minutes when Mark Noone found the net. His side then kicked five unanswered points before Noone added a second goal on 22 minutes to make it 2-5 to 0-1.

The final two points of the half were shared to send the Tullyallen side in with a commanding 2-6 to 0-2 lead.

Although the Emmets added a point early in the second half, the Westerns rallied with three in succession to reduce the gap. However, the home side regained control and were never seriously troubled despite a Brian Martin goal for the Westerns on 51 minutes.
