Blues men turn on the style after interval

Paddy Sheelan Cup: Newtown Blues 2-13 Naomh Mairtin 3-6

Newtown Blues booked their place in the final of the Paddy Sheelan Cup after a strong second half display saw them see off the challenge of Naomh Mairtin at Newfoundwell on Sunday afternoon.

Lorcan McQuillan and Rob Carr did most of the damage for the hosts as they both finished with 1-4 to their credit.

The first half proved to be an entertaining affair with little to choose between the teams. A Carr penalty and a three-pointer from McQuillan provided the reward for some good Blues attacking play.

However, the Mairtins matched them as a goals from Wayne McQuillan and JP Rooney saw the teams go in at the break level at 2-4 apiece.

Campbell added a second goal eight minutes into the second half but the Blues took control of the match Johnny McDonnell and Daire Nally were among the scorers as the Drogheda side emerged with a four-point victory.
