Dundalk's award-winning M.A.D Youth Theatre is hosting its ninth open day on Thursday September 12 at its Earl Street premises.

The youth theatre company has had a 'jammed packed and successful year, thanks to the support of affiliates and sponsors,' says director Kwaise Boyce.

Highlights of the year included their Annual Little Drama Festival, attending an international Youth Theatre Festival in Prague as well as Ireland's National Festival of Youth Theatre.

They also went on tour with street theatre performances of Tàin Bo Cuailgne as part of the Tain March and starred in the Fleadh TV promotional video for the Fleadh Cheoil na hEireann in Drogheda.

They are now are inviting young people aged 12 to 21 years who have an interest in drama to join them on Thursday September 12 from 5.30pm to 7.30pm to see what youth theatre is all about.

'M.A.D Youth Theatre is a place where a young person can explore a variety of skills, engage in the arts and take part in the fun social activities. It's more that just drama, we focus on the social, personal and artistic development of our members,' says Kwaise.

He explains that their programming ensures young people are at the centre of everything they do. Young people are involved in the members committee which gives them a say in what happens on and off the stage. This year the youth committee ran two very successful events, raining awareness for mental health day, and raising funds for Rainbow Ireland Dundalk by hosting a fashion show.
