Victim of stabbing unable to attend court

A 28-year-old man due to appear before the district court on a number of charges, was not present last Wednesday because he had been the victim of a serious assault.

Counsel for Martin Smith said the previous Friday his client had been 'stabbed and sliced very badly' and received 'hundreds of stitches'.

Sgt Fintan McGroder added gardaí were aware of the incident. He applied for an adjournment for service of a book of evidence.

Smith, of 506 Aisling Park, Cox's Demesne, is accused of, while committing an offence, holding an extendable baton in a threatening manner at Aisling Park on 5 August, 2017; and engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting behaviour and being intoxicated in a public place at Aisling Park on 18 September, 2017.

He is also charged with, while appearing about to commit an assault, producing a hammer, at Castleross, Castletown Road, on 27 December, 2017.
