There was a raucous welcome for Queen Meabh and her army when they descended on Market Square during the town's 'Super Saturday' celebrations.

The fabulous summer weather added to the festive atmosphere as the legendary Louth tale was re-told in live action sequences!

The marchers had been receiving an enthusiastic welcome in towns and village across the country since setting off from Rathcroghan in County Roscommon on May 18th.

The festival celebrated the epic tale of the Cattle Raid of Cooley. It has grown in legend over the years and this year's march saw a number of 'Hedge School' events taking place for the first time.

Queen Meabh's army arrived into Dundalk on Saturday last after receiving an enthusiastic welcome in both Ardee and Knockbridge. The marchers arrived at Oriel Park on route to Market Square where the great warrior Cuchulainn and his army were waiting to do battle.

The battle co-incided with a range of events for the BIDS 'Super Saturday' customer appreciation day.
