A gift of a camera led to a new hobby for Blackrock resident Stephen McElligot and now one of his photographs has been selected for an international exhibition in the Serbian capital Belgrade.

His striking image of Dundalk with light trails from passing traffic was among over 100,000 photographs from around the world entered into an on-line competition hosted by GuruShots.

The theme of the competition was 'Nightlife' and Stephen is delighted that his photograph is one of 600 chosen to be displayed in Belgrade's popular New Moments art gallery, later this month.

Stephen only took up photography in 2013.

'My wife Audrey was having treatment for cancer at the time and she phoned me from hospital, asking me did I want an iPhone or camera for my birthday which falls on Christmas day,' says Stephen.

He opted for a camera and set about teaching himself the art of photography, specialising in landscapes.
