St. Pat's Scouts host Crowne Plaza abseil

THE Scouts from St. Patrick's Group, 1st/2nd/5thLouth on the Castletown Road have organised their third annual 'Come Down the Crowne Abseil', their very adventerous and exciting fundraiser.

On Sunday 26th June they are giving people the chance to abseil off the 14 storey, 170 foot Crowne Plaza Hotel in the town. Over the last two years in excess of 200 brave people have taken to the challenge, raising much needed funds for local Scouting Groups.

Dundalk and its surrounding areas has nine Scout Groups, Catering for boys and Girls from the age of six up to tentyone.

Since 2004 membership of Scouting Ireland has increased by 29%. Scouting offers young people the chance to develop themselves through challenges and an age appropriate programme of activities.

This is supported by adult volunteers, who don't 'direct' the scouts, but work with them in achieving their full potential.

The fundraiser is open to members of the public and there is a registration fee of €20, then each participant will receive a sponsorship card and must raise a minimum of €125 in order to complete the abseil. Places are limited.

Call or text Finbar Gethins on 086 2088523 or email to register for this fantastic opportunity. Group leader of 1st/2nd/5th Louth, Fintan Sheridan, said: ' Come Down The Crowne is our single biggest fundraising event of the year.

'However, it's not only about raising funds. This year we are planning a carnival type event for all the family at the base of the hotel. It really should be a great day out and will showcase some of the exciting and adventurous activities scouts take part in.'
