Scouts plan abseil fundraiser

THE Scouts from St Patrick's group 1/2/5 Louth have come up with a very unique and exciting fundraiser for the group by giving people the chance to abseil off the 14-storey Crowne Plaza Hotel on June 14th.

Speaking from the roof of the hotel, Scout leader Finbar Gethins said: ' The views from up here are fantastic, although I'm not sure anyone will be looking at them on June 14th. And looking over the edge it sure is a long way down.'

The fundraiser is open to members of the public there is a registration fee of € 20, then each participant will receive a sponsorship card and must raise a minimum of € 125 in order to complete the abseil. Places are very limited. Call Finbar Gethins on 086-2308074 or email to register for this fantastic opportunity.

General manager of Crowne Plaza Garrett O'Neill said: ' We're delighted to work with local scouting. As a former scout I know very well the training and development they give to young people.

' This is a very good cause, and I would encourage as many people as possible to give it a go and raise as much funds for scouting as you can. I may even give it a go myself.'

The abseiling on the day will be run by the Highpoint Group who specialise in extreme outdoor activites and are no strangers to running an abseiling event of this scale. Indeed last year they had an 82-year-old man abseil the 14 story Invest NI building in Belfast. This event is open to all those over 14 years of age, and who knows, there may be someone older than 82!

Again places are very limited and will be allocated on a first come basis so contact Finbar straight away.
