RTE announce new North East correspondent Sinead Hussey

The appointment of new RTE correspondent for the North East was confirmed this week.

Sinead Hussey has been announced as the new North East correspondent, covering Louth, Monaghan, Meath and Cavan.

The Longford native has worked as a multimedia journalist at the broadcaster since 2011.

Speaking about her new role, she said: "I'm delighted to be afforded the opportunity to provide RTÉ with an even stronger presence in the North East region. Coming from the regions I understand the importance of regional news and look forward to the telling the stories of people from across the North East. With Brexit looming large, it has never been more important.'

Sinead has reported on a wide range of major news stories including the case of missing Irish student Karen Buckley in Glasgow, the funeral of Martin Guinness in Derry and the 2017 water crisis across the North East region.

The journalist, who lives in Mullingar, holds a BA (Economics and Spanish) and a Masters in Communications from Maynooth University.
