Two pupils of Bellurgan NS were the toast of the school last week after they helped their grandmother who fell ill while they were staying with her.

The quick thinking of Tommy and Ruby Hynes ensured that their grandmother Geraldine got medical help, with a grateful Geraldine stating afterwards: 'Tommy saved my life.'

Ten year old Tommy and his sister Ruby (8) and Kacey (4) were spending the night in their grandmother's home.

The following morning, Tommy noticed that something was wrong with his grandmother and became worried.

He phoned his parents, telling them that his grandmother was ill, and they immediately contacted the emergency services.

Meanwhile Tommy and Ruby took care of their little sister Kacey, and were praised for their quick thinking by the paramedics and medical staff.

Their parents Kevin and Valerie and all their family are very proud of them, as are the staff and children in Bellurgan National School where Tommy and Ruby are fourth and second class pupils.
