Politicians fight over Fidel funeral
Gerry Adams's decision to travel to Cuba to pay his respects to Fidel Castro has been criticised by Fine Gael councillor John McGahon who says the Sinn Fein leader's trip 'is another clear example of his lack of judgement'.
Mr Adams, who met the former Cuban president, described Castro 'a global leader, and part of the revolution that liberated Cuba' and said he 'supported the right of peoples around the world to freedom and independence'.
But Cllr. McGahon said Castro 'persecuted those who dared challenge his will and was guilty of violent abuses of accepted legal standards and human rights.
'He was no hero, no revolutionary icon, no shining light for the left'.
