Man (51) struck with iron bar during theft
Taken to hospital after serious incident along Rampart Lane
Gardai are investigating a serious incident in which man was struck on the head a number of times with an iron bar in the vicinity of Rampart Lane in the early hours of yesterday (Monday) morning.
The man was walking along the town centre roadway when a second man passed on a bicycle. Gardai confirmed reports that an iron bar was used to strike the pedestrian on the head. The cyclist then robbed the man of his mobile phone, a black Samsung J36, and cash.
The victim raised the alarm, and was later taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for medical assessment.

Meanwhile gardai detained a 37 year old man along the Castletown Road last week on suspicion of possessing an 'offensive weapon' in what was reported to have been pepper spray. A second man,a 23 year old was also detained by gardai investigating the incident.
Gardai have once again issued warnings against valuables being left behind in parked cars. The warning came as a woman parked at Faughart graveyard last week and returned ten minutes later to find her handbag stolen.
A 20 year old male was questioned by gardai in relation to an incident in a taxi at Linen Hall street on Monday. The drive reported the man became abusive.
Gardai are also investigating theft of number plates from a car parked at Kingswood, Blackrock Road. The front and rear registration plates were reported to have been stolen between 6a.m on the 28th August and 8.30p.m the following day.
A Panasonic television was stolen during a burglary at an apartment along Stapleton Place last week.
Gardai confirmed there were 16 suspected public order incidents reported over the last week.
There were also three drivers questioned on suspicion of driving while under the influence of alcohol.
