There was mixed feelings in Dundalk on Monday lunchtime as Stephen Kenny was unveiled as the new Irish Under 21 manager, before taking over the senior team role in August 2020.

The speed of the appointment, since Martin O'Neill's departure last week has left Lilywhites supporters shocked and dismayed coming just weeks after the team had secured their second double and fourth league title in Stephen Kenny's six wonderful years at Oriel Park.

Still supporters put aside their own feelings and expressed their immense pride that a manager that the town has taken to its heart has being given his dream job in Irish football.

Speaking on Monday, Stephen Kenny reflectedon his time at Oriel Park, 'It was a real wrench to leave Dundalk Football Club because we had unprecedented success there and the staff and players were amazing to work with. They were a real special group of players and there was a tremendous bond between the football club and the whole town really'.
