The first day at school is always a memorable occasion but the opening of Faughart Community National School on Thursday was a particular joyous one as it marked a historic day for the parish.

Pupils and parents were welcomed to the school by the newly appointed principal Ms Jacqui McCusker and teaching staff Mr Andreu D'Arcy and Ms Saoirse McDermott.

The school, which is in the building previously occupied by the former Scoil Naisiunta Bhríghde, is the first community national school in Co Louth under the patronage of Louth Meath Educational and Training Board.

Bellurgan native Ms McCusker comes to Faughart from St. Oliver's National School, Carlingford where she was Deputy Principal for nine years, having taught there since 2008. During her time in St. Oliver's N.S. Jacqui taught a variety of class groups including multi grade class groups and Deputy Principal duties.

She also had responsibility for leading ICT, Digital Learning and STEM subjects within the school and was also responsible for whole school curriculum planning and organisational policy development. Jacqui played a key role in the school's School Self Evaluation process and the introduction of coding to students at the school. Jacqui has a wealth of experience and expertise in the area of Digital Technologies in Teaching, Learning and Assessment and she looks forward to embedding Digital Technologies at Faughart Community National School.

Bringing a wealth of experience to the post, Jacqui recognises the inextricable link between high quality teaching, learning and assessment methods and student achievement and attainment and is committed to supporting and promoting teacher professional development.

Jacqui places great value on student involvement in extra-curricular activities and plans to develop a wide range of these activities at Faughart Community National School.

She would like to extend a thanks to members of the Faughart community who have given her a warm welcome over the past two weeks upon her appointment to the role of Principal at Faughart Community National School

Over the past few weeks, LMETB have been busy carrying out a range of upgrading works at the school which were co-ordinated and managed by the LMETB Director of Schools, Ms. Fiona Kindlon. Ms. Kindlon said LMETB were delighted with the great interest in the role of Principal Teacher and Teaching Staff for the school and she was very much looking forward to working with the extremely competent and capable staff team who have been appointed to the school.

Queries regarding enrolment should be forwarded to or contact the school by phone on 042 9371931
