Getting in tune for launch of music academy

Anne Campbell

A FORMER musical director with the Celtic Tenors and his equally talented friend will launch the Blackrock Academy of Music at the weekend with an open day for prospective students.

And the pair - Daniel Meegan and Colm Rogan - are setting up their new venture in what to many is the home of music in the seaside village - above Danny Hughes's shop on the Main Street.

Daniel and Colm are lifelong friends and said they are excited about combining their talents in creating a new opportunity for budding musicians to follow in their footsteps.

Daniel, a composer and performing artist, has recently received a First Class Honours Masters Degree in Music Technology. Daniel is a well-established musician who has toured worldwide with internationally-signed artists.

Colm, who also has a BMus (Hons.), has just completed three years of worldwide touring as musical director of the Celtic Tenors. Having performed with prestigious artists and orchestras in the professional circuit, Colm said he is looking forward to sharing his wealth of experience with students of the academy.

Daniel said: 'The academy will set a new standard for music tuition in the area for all aspiring musicians. Along with fully equipped tuition rooms, we offer a highly-qualified and internationally experienced teaching staff.

'The Academy provides tuition in a wide range of instruments; including guitar, piano, keyboard and drums, as well as home recording and pre-instrumental courses'.

Blackrock Academy of Music will hold an open day on Saturday August 24, which will provide an opportunity to view the renovated facilities and to meet the staff.

The day, which runs from noon to 5pm, also sees the launch of the Beat Factory rehearsal space, complete with a professional backline.

Lessons start at €12 per half hour. For more information, contact the academy at 087 344 115, or on location at Main Street, Blackrock.
