Gardai probe town assaults

Gardai are investigating a number of assaults which took place in Dundalk over the weekend.

Witnesses are sought to an incident which occurred at Francis Street at 2.45am on Sunday May 6th when a 27-year-old woman was assaulted and had her hair pulled while waiting for a taxi.

Gardai found a 27-year-old man with facial injuries when they responded to a call that a number of men were fighting in the Castletown Road area at 4.30am. The man was subsequently taken by ambulance to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for treatment for his injuries.

The owner of a Quay Street shop was assaulted when he confronted a would be thief on Sunday evening at 6.10pm.

The victim was slapped in the face by a man who then ran off towards St Joseph's Park.

The assailant was wearing a red jacket, blue jeans and black runners.

Separately, ten people were arrested for public order offences over the course of the Bank Holiday Weekend.
