Gardai probe garage worker 'kidnap'

Merc driver sped away with petrol station worker after forecourt row

Anne Campbell

GardaÍ want to question the driver of a Mercedes on suspicion of false imprisonment after a row at a border garage forecourt escalated into a 'kidnapping'.

Details of the incident, which happened last Tuesday, were released yesterday and relate to a fuel station in the Dromad area, gardaí said.

On April 4, a Northern-registered black Mercedes saloon car pulled into the forecourt at around 5.20pm.

A 54-year-old worker became suspicious and was concerned he would drive off without paying.

The worker confronted the driver and 'ended up in the car with him'. The Merc drove a short distance, but left the man back close to the petrol station before speeding away. The victim was assaulted during the incident. Anyone with information should contact 042 9335577.
