Full programme for ploughing and field day
THE Cooley Peninsula Ploughing and Field Day takes place on Sunday 1st September at a site at Riverstown just beyond Martins.
A full programme of events has been organised with a special emphasis on the ploughing. Horse and tractor ploughing competitions will take place and anyone capable of handling a plough is welcome to take part. All ploughing will be judged on the day by a special judging panel.
There will be plenty of trade shows with Rice & Roddy, Lynns, Byrne & Maguire, Cumiskeys and Reels displaying the latest Kia, Peugeot, Ford, VW and a variety of vans. There will be a garden equipment stand and the Meath Travellers Workshop will display all the old tinsmith skills. Oriel Food Producers represent the finest food producers in the area and they will also have a stand at Cooley. There will be a Fashion Show, D-Max Toys from Monaghan will be there, the Mens' Shed will have a display, and the Oriel Hunt will be present with their horses and hounds.
A dog show has also been organised and all dogs are welcome. The Mountpleasant Dog Training Exhibition should attract plenty of attention as should the World of Owls, Northern Ireland's only Owl, Bird of Prey and Exotic Animal Centre.
There will also be sheep racing, butter making, vintage cars and machinery, threshing mills, a display of modern machinery, a showing of poultry, deer and numerous other animals, amusements, a creche facility on site, plenty of music with local talents and special guest appearances by country legend, Hugo Duncan, and Boxcar Bryan. A 'meet and greet' session with Rob and Dave Kearney has also been arranged.
A special raffle will also take place with a top prize of €1,500 or a heifer! Other prizes include 2 tickets for Mrs. Brown's Boys, a weekend for 2 in McKevitt's Hotel, dinner for 2 in Fitzpatricks and the Carrickdale and a special meal for 2 in McKevitts.
The gates open at 12.30 p.m. and admission to the carparks is free. All proceeds from the event will go towards The Children's Respite Centre at Lordship.
