Fourth annual cycle in memory of Garda Golden launched

Margaret Roddy

The official launch of this years Garda Tony Golden Memorial Cycle took place at Dundalk Garda Station last week.

This year's race takes place in Blackrock on September 14th with funds going to the O.N.E.

This is the fourth year that the race had been held in memory of Garda Tony Golden who wore the shoulder number LH286, tragically killed in the line of duty in October 2015.

Tony had made his home in the village with his wife Nicola and family and was a popular member of the local community.

The organisers of the race, former colleagues and friends of Gda Golden, explain that they 'undertake the cycle to remember Tony, but in doing so we hope to raise much needed funds for a worthy charity along the way. Once our costs for running the event are covered, all monies raised go to a selected charity.'

This year they have O.N.E., which was set up to support ex military service personnel who find themselves homeless.

'As everyone is aware, homelessness is a huge issue in today's society,' they note.

The organisers are very grateful to their sponsors Blackstone Motors, Dundalk, The Neptune Bar, Blackrock, Total Produce and SuperValu, Blackrock for their support.

There are two routes, a 65k and a 116k with booking through the activtouronline website.

As usual, the cycle will be followed by a presentation night in The Neptune that evening.

Anyone who would like to get involved in the event can register to take part in the cycle at
