The campaign against illegal parking in disabled bays saw one driver returning to find their car seized by gardai in Dundalk last weekend.

Gardai confirmed that the Volkswagen Golf was seized in Clanbrassil Street after it was observed by the Dundalk Roads Policing Unit being parked in a disabled spot without a permit.

It was also revealed that the vehicle also hadn't valid tax displayed with a fixed charge penalty notice issued to the owner.

The seizure was posted on the An Garda Síochána Twitter account, where it was described as 'An expensive night out on town' for the owner.'

The seizure of the vehicle is part of Operation Enable launched in April, aimed at reducing the illegal use of disabled parking bays in Dundalk.

Chief Supt. Mangan said there would be 'zero tolerance'. 'We won't be using much discretion in this, and we will enforce the rules rigidly, we make no apologies about that.'
