North Louth woman Eve McCrystal sprinted to success, winning her first national cycling title in the Elite Women's Road Race event in Sligo last weekend.

The Paralympic cyclist, who represented Ireland at the 2016 Rio Games, claimed gold in the 105km race in Sligo. With just 200m to go, McCrystal was in fourth place, but in a dramatic sprint finish, she powered her way to the front of the group, pipping her competitors to first place on the line.

Speaking to the Argus, she said 'It was just the best feeling ever when I crossed the finish line. I gave the race my all, physically and mentally. As a solo rider, this has been a massive goal for the last few years, I am just so thrilled.'
