World Champions Katie-George Dunlevy and her pilot Eve McCrystal were honoured at the annual Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year Awards last week.

The duo won the Sportswoman of the Month Award for August - for the second year in a row - after they successfully defended both their titles at the UCI Para-cycling Road World Championships in Italy.

After winning gold and silver at the Rio Paralympic Games in 2016, the duo went onto win double gold at the World Championships in South Africa last year.

Dunlevy, a visually impaired rider and Eve, a member of An Garda Siochana who is stationed in Ballybay have achieved incredible success in their first four years together.

The fact that they won the 82-kilometre road world champion race by two and a half minutes underlined their class.

The Louth woman said she believed the race was one of the best they had ever been in.

'It was a really good course. We just felt really, really good.'

World champion boxer Kellie Harrington, who was Sportswoman of the Month for November, was crowned The Irish Times Sport Ireland Sportswoman of the Year for 2018 at the event.
