Dundalk FM airs two-part McArdle documentary
A TWO-part documentary cataloguing the life of athlete Peter McArdle, born in Blackrock, on March 22, 1929, will be broadcast in two parts on Dundalk FM over the next two weekends.
The first part will be on air on Saturday at 9am and repeated on Sunday at 5pm and the second part will be on at the same times the following Saturday (March 29) and Sunday.
The broadcast will also be available at www.dundalkfm.com/listenlive or at www.jimmyneary.com, one of the presenters' websites.
The programme will cover Peter's life as an athlete and as a person, giving recognition to his many athletic successes both in Ireland and in the USA. Listeners will stories and memories from many people in peter's life including his family, friends, work colleagues and competitors.
The programme will highlight the reasons why Peter emigrated to the USA and will recall the occasions when he represented America at the Pan American games in Sao Paulo in 1964 and at the Tokyo Olympic games the following year.
Peter died while on a training run in Van Courtlandt Park, New York on June 24 1985. The finish line in the park is now named after him. There is the Pete McArdle Memorial Cross Country Race run on the last Saturday in November each year to honour his life and achievements.
