The countdown is on to one of the biggest nights on the Irish greyhound racing calendar.

Dundalk Stadium on next Friday week hosts the 2019 Dundalk International, the traditional 12 July showpiece featuring six of the best dogs in Ireland and Britain.

This year's renewal is being billed as a family fun day and features the Carnbeg Hotel & Spa most stylish lady competition.

The big day begins at 4pm when doors open. There will be a live music session by the Casino Dixieland Jazz Band, with a barbecue available on the stunning new outside terrace.

Children's entertainment includes bouncey castles and face-painting.

Racing action gets underway at 7pm and the feature is timed for 8.45pm when a first prize of €20,000 is one offer out of a total pot of €37,000.

Won last year by English representative Droopys Verve after a thrilling battle with Borna Gin in a record time, the field for the 550 yards contest will be finalised over the coming days.

Once the canine athletes are finished on the track further entertainment will be provided by popular band The Urge.

The most stylish lady will walk away with a luxury experience package worth more than €1,000.

The prize includes two-nights' B&B for the winner and three friends, a two-course dinner on one night with prosecco reception, afternoon tea for the group, in addition to a €100 spa treatment voucher and spa goodie pack for each guest.

Judging the most stylish lady will be Sheila McCall, best-known for her blog Glam Meets Girl and as the owner of SMC Millinery.

A regular attender at race meetings, Sheila is an enthusiast of all things fashion and style, and is the winner of an Irish beauty blog award.

Barry Doyle, sales & marketing manager of the Carnbeg Hotel, remarked: 'The competition comes at a fantastic time for the hotel, as we celebrate the first birthday of our fabulous Sonas Spa in July.

'Over the past 12 months our wedding business has grown. In October, the hotel played host to the Co. Louth Wedding Fair, showcasing our newly-refurbished Blackrock Suite.

'We look forward to welcoming the lucky winners to Carnbeg.'

Meanwhile, Lisa O'Connor, sales & marketing manager, Dundalk Stadium, noted the long history of the annual Dundalk International which was inaugurated in 1968.

'We are delighted to be working with the Carnbeg Hotel & Spa who are kindly sponsoring the prestigious and highly sought after most stylish lady title,' she added.

'Dundalk Stadium is very much looking forward to an exciting race day, sure to be fun and entertaining for all the family.'
