Christmas Draw

THE Cuchulainn Gaels Christmas draw took place in The Granvue Hotel, Omeath, on Saturday night last, 28th December.

The various prizewinners were as follows: 1st prize; All Ireland Hurling tickets; Michael Breen. 2nd prize; Garret Mallon handcrafted jewellery; Callum O'Hanlon. 3rd prize; €150 cash; Peter Woods. 4th prize; Cu. Gaels hoodie/rain jacket; Claire Hynes. 5th prize; Christmas Hamper; Aaron Rogers. 6th prize; Cafe Rosa Voucher; John Jennings. 7th prize; Patrick Phillips voucher; Larry Brennan. 8th prize; bottle of champagne; John Quinn. 9th prize; bottle of wine; Roisin Jones. 10th prize; bottle of wine; Lena Mallon. 11th prize; bottle of wine; Fionnuala Woods.

The club would like to thank everybody that supported this annual draw and would like to congratulate all the prize winners! They would like to especially thank the various prize sponsors CAFE ROSA, Patrick Phillips Fruit & Vegetables and Garrett Mallon Jewellery. They would also like to commend Shane, Helen and the team at the Granvue Hotel, Omeath, for their generous hospitality and for all their help to make the night a great success!

As 2013 draws to a close, Cuchulainn Gaels would like to wish all their members, supporters, players, sponsors and all their fellow Gaels a very happy and prosperous 2014!


The Carlingford / Omeath parish lotto draw took place on Tuesday night, December 17. The jackpot on offer was €15.000 but the four numbers drawn, 3, 7, 14 and 26, were not matched. There were two 'match three' winners, P. Small and N. McGrane. They each receive €75.

The jackpot for the next draw which takes place in the New Year is €15,000.


The Cooley Kickhams lotto draw took place in the clubrooms at Monksland on Monday night 23rd December.

There was a jackpot of €11,000 on offer but this prize was not claimed when no one matched all the four numbers drawn, 2, 3, 6 and 26. There were four 'match three' winners; Linda Clarke c/o Jamie; Gerry Keenan c/o Jim Gormley; Johnny and Pauline Traynor c/o Jamie; John Hanlon c/o Eilish Kane; Dorothy Murphy c/o Barry's Shop. They each receive €40.

The next draw is on Monday 6th January 2014 for a jackpot of €11,200.

In his recent annual report at the Cooley Kickhams A.G.M., outgoing Secretary Kevin Smyth thanked everyone for their lotto support and went on to say how important a thriving lotto is for the survival of the club.

'The lotto continues to be the club's key source of income, and any drop in lotto sales will always cause us a problem. There are probably a few club members who don't buy the club lotto every week, for a variety of reasons. Some of you may even be sitting here tonight.

'The lotto can be purchased from any of our sellers, online on the club website, and in local businesses such as Barrys, Dans Café and Londis in Bellurgan. I hope all club members will support our lotto on a weekly basis in 2014.'

The Cooley Kickhams Gym is open from 8.30 a.m. to 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday. The cost is €5 per session, €20 per month or €50 for 3 months.

Social Dance Classes continue every Thursday in the Cooley Kickhams Complex where you can learn all the dance moves. For further information call Marie Donnelly at 086-3573271.


The Omeath Tidy Towns committee would like to thank most sincerely everyone who contributed to the recent fund raising concert and the Christmas Raffle.

The concert took place in St. Laurence's Church and featured local Dundalk Tenor, David Martin, and guests. Over €2000 was raised which will assist with the purchase of new seating at the shore!

The group wishes one and all a very happy New Year and look forward to their continued support in 2014. Mile buiochas.


The Cuchulainn Gaels lotto draw took place on Wednesday last, 18th December, in Howes.

There was a jackpot of €9,200 on offer but this was not won and increases to €9,300 for the next draw.

The numbers drawn were 4, 24, 28 and 29. There were no 'match three' winners and the f ive consolation prices of €20 each went to Emma Thompson, Mena Fegan, Ronan Murtagh, Micheal Mulligan and Alison Marsland.

Remember you can play in all local shops and businesses, through standing order or now online at Tickets are also on sale from committee members. All credit and debit cards are accepted.


Eddie Caffrey returns to St. Mary's Hall, Cooley, with his Greenscene Show on Sunday next, 5th January.

The Bingo sessions will re-commence on Wednesday 8th January 2014.


The Cooley Youth Club re-opens after the short Christmas break on Friday 10th January at the usual time of 8 p.m. until 10 p.m.

At the recent Cooley Kickhams A.G.M., Kevin Smyth, Secretary, congratulated the Youth Club on their renovation work; " Last year the Kickhams Club gave up the old kitchen to the Youth Club. They totally renovated it and made a great job out of it. The Youth Club has since gone from strength to strength with over 100 children attending on a weekly basis. We are delighted to be able to assist in providing this social outlet for our youth".


Cooley Kickhams are once again running their favourite major fundraiser, Strictly Cooley Style, on Saturday February 15th 2014 in their sports complex.

Last year's event was a great success and was thoroughly enjoyed by dancers and public alike and expectations are even greater for the one planned for February next.

We are still looking for volunteers, both male and female dancers, to participate and anyone interested can contact Ann at 087-9333465 or Fintan at 087-8052389.

Training will commence the first week of January 2014 for 6 weeks and entrants are guaranteed to enjoy every minute of the schedule.


The Cooley Parent and Toddler Group re-opens in St. Mary's Parochial Hall, Cooley, on Thursday 9th January 2014 from 10 a.m. - 12 noon. New parents are always welcome


The Cooley Active Retirement re-opens in the Cooley Kickhams Sports Complex on Thursday 16th January from 2.30 p.m. New members are always welcome.
