Chamber stages another successful golf classic

Dundalk Chamber's own team emerged victorious at their annual golf classic in the Dundalk club on Friday.

One of the longest established and most popular classics in the north-east region, the prestigous event was sponsored by Recruit Island.

There was a great turn-out, and all teams enjoyed the beautiful surroundings of the Blackrock course, as well as the warm atmosphere and hospitality.

The track was, as usual, in top-class condition.

At the 9th hole the traditional barbecue, sponsored by McArdle Meats, was looked forward to by the players and afforded them the opportunity to meet up with other competitors for a chat before completing the course.

An evening of entertainment followed with dinner, prize presentation and a raffle in the clubhouse.

Results were as follows:

First, 96 points, Dundalk Chamber (Frank Pentony, Martin Patterson, Jim McCorry, K Boyd).

Second, 91 points, Senator Windows (N Nugent, M McCreesh, M Rooney, L Crilly).

Third, 89 points, Louth Leader Partnership (Paul Branagan, Josh Macken, Noel Macken, Ray Murphy).

Fourth, 89 points, Electric Ireland (Vincent Litchfield, Séamus Bellew, Paul Litchfield, Richard Mulholland).

Fifth, 88 points, Greenore Port (M Savage, P Hollywood, P Savage, M McGahon).

Nearest the pin, gents, was won by George McEnteggart, Louth Community Men's Shed.

Nearest the pin, ladies, Jacinta Foran, Blackrock Abbey Nursing Home.

Longest drive, gents, Fintan Lawlor, CTI Business Solutions.

Longest drive, ladies, Brenda McParland.

Meanwhile, the putting competition was won by Brendan Lawlor, CTI Business Solutions.

A fantastic raffle included a variety of prizes, among them two tickets to Grease the Musical won by Graham Purcell; and beautiful jewellery donated by Rapport was won by R. Kennedy.

The prize of one night's B & B for two in the Crowne Plaza, Dundalk, went to David Brennan.

Two tickets for the All-Ireland Final in Croke Park, sponsored by Recruit Island, were won by N Nugent.

Recruit Island thanked the organising committee at the Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, Leslie and Aaron of Dundalk Golf Club and all those who helped to make the golf classic a tremendous success.
