Cannabis seized at checkpoint
CANNABIS with an estimated value of €500 was seized when gardai and Customs stopped a car at a planned checkpoint near Dundalk last week.
At around 11.45am on Thursday, the officers stopped the car at the Racecourse Road and the cannabis was discovered. A 31-year-old man from Dundalk has been charged with having drugs for sale or supply and bailed to appear at Dundalk District Court at a later date.
HANDBAGS STOLEN FROM PARKED CARS
CARS continue to be targeted by thieves in the Dundalk and north Louth area with a number of items stolen from them over the past week.
On Thursday, a handbag was stolen from a care at Ravensdale Park between 7pm and 8pm, while on Saturday, the driver's window of a car was broken while the driver was at Shelling Hill beach and the Mont Blanc handbag was stolen from the glove compartment.
And a car parked at Belfry Drive was targeted on Sunday and a small amount of cash taken.
LUXURY CRUISE SHIP SAILS IN
THE arrival of the Saga Pearl 11 cruise ship in Warrenpoint caused much excitement along the southern shores of Carlingford Lough as the massive ship glided past Greenore, Carlingford and Omeath early on Sunday morning.
The luxury seven-deck ship,which can accommodate 499 passengers, was paying her first visit to Warrenpoint on a cruise which departed from Dover and took in ports in Iceland, Norway and Scotland before calling to the north Antrim coast and Warrenpoint.
