'Baldwins Jewellers' makes move to MINT

Margaret Roddy

A new chapter opens in Dundalk retailling history as Baldwin Jewellers moves from Park Street to MINT by Baldwins on Earl Street next month.

The Park Street shop was established by the late Bernie Baldwin 59 years ago and today his grandson Bryan McCrystal and wife Karen are at the helm of the the successful business.

Bernie, who was a well-known figure in local musical theatre circles, opened the Park Street shop as a tobacconist and gift shop and over time began specialising in jewellery, with daughter Frances taking over the business.

'We've had very good years in the shop and are very appreciative of all our customers and neighbouring businesses in Park St and we hope people will come to our shop in Earl Street,' says Bryan, who got involved in the business when he returned home after playing with Leeds United twelve years ago.

Having opened MINT two years ago, Bryan says that the plan was always to combine the two businesses.

'We are simply moving our traditional jewellery business at Baldwin's to MINT where we stock contemporary ranges such as Pandora & Alex and Ani.'

'Baldwins will now be a shop within a shop in MINT. It will continue to specialise in diamonds and precious metals. Our qualified goldsmith Agata will be moving to Earl St with us to a bigger more luxurious setting'

'We are still offering the personal service which our customers expect and we really pride ourselves on doing this,' says Brian.
