Aiming for the top

THE FIRST Irish climber to reach the top of Mount Everest, Dr Dawson Stelfox, was the special guest at Dundalk Grammar School's annual prize- giving ceremony which took place in the newlybuilt Multi-Purpose Hall last Friday.

In a thought-provoking speech Dr. Stelfox told the assembled audience of students , parents and school staff about both the 'physical and psychological challenges of mountaineering' and how 'you can learn from your mistakes'.

He emphasized how to him 'committment is what makes a difference between success and failure' and that knowledge brings the confidence to go further.

He ended his speech with a few inspiring and reassuring words saying that 'everyone is capable of excelling in whatever field they choose'. There were a large number of awards handed out on the day for a wide range of activities carried out in the school including community service, academic excellence, application and progress, and music.

As in previous years, the audience were provided with a number of wonderful musical moments from the school's choir and orchestra.
