This week in Carlingford, Lordship

Red Cross Christmas Party: The Carlingford/Omeath Red Cross held their annual senior citizens Christmas party this year on Sunday December 8 in Ballymascanlon Hotel.

Special thanks to the hotel management and staff for the beautiful meal which got the evening off to a great start. The music on the night was provided by our great friends, Blue Magic, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed this part of the occasion by joining in the fun and dancing the night away. We had a surprise visit from the man himself, Santa Claus, and he gave out presents to those that were very good. We also had a wonderful raffle with numerous good prizes. This was possible due to the generosity of the many sponsors and special thanks to them for their support.

The night was a great success and was great enjoyed by everyone. We would like go wish each and everyone a Happy Christmas and good health in 2020.

Thanks from CASA

CASA, the Caring & Sharing Association, would like to express their thanks to all who supported their charity during 2019. The level of support received from Louth and especially from the Cooley Peninsula is truly amazing and deeply appreciated by CASA.

The season of Christmas is very busy for CASA as they host Christmas parties in many locations throughout Ireland. People of all ages and with a wide range of disabilities grasp the opportunity to have a funfilled day meeting Santa, enjoying nice food and lively music. To each person who went to the trouble of putting an unwanted item of clothing/footwear into a bag, and donating it to CASA, a massive thank you.

The next CASA pilgrimage to Lourdes is planned to take place in June 2020. CASA would like to wish their many supporters a happy and peaceful Christmas. May their hearts be filled with an abundance of richly deserved blessings in 2020.

Christmas Greetings from Birches

The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre would like to wish their dearly loved clients and families a peaceful and happy Christmas.

They would like to express their deepest gratitude to the many people who have supported The Birches during 2019. Thanks to those who organised fundraising events and to those who supported these events, showing solidarity with the Birches in so many different ways. The level of support received by The Birches from the North Louth area is heartening for both staff and management. It continues to fill them with the courage to always strive to see the light in worlds which can be darkened by dementia. It inspires them to continue their commitment to families all over Louth, to deliver the highest standard of care and respect to all who pass through their doors.

Celebrating Christmas with family and friends can be one of life's greatest joys. For a person living with dementia it can sometimes be an overwhelming experience. Old photographs can often help to broaden conversation when chatting becomes challenging. Making the most of the musical aspect of Christmas by playing Christmas CD's can have direct benefits for someone living with dementia. Carer's of people living with dementia work tirelessly to fulfill their valuable role. They deserve a chance to put their feet up at this special time of year. Christmas is a lovely opportunity to offer them support. Christmas is forever, not just for one day. Each day is for loving, sharing, giving and not to be put away with the bells, lights and tinsel in a box on a shelf. Blessed are those who ease the days of another's journey home in loving ways. During this Christmas season, let love weave it's way though each other's hearts. When we give rather than receive, the world becomes such a better place to live. People need people, we are each other's greatest resource

May Christmas blessings be in abundance to all who are a part of The Birches family.
