St. Joseph's NS students help charity fight homelessness
The students of St. Joseph's National School carried out a series of fundraisers to raise money for the homelessness charity Focus Ireland.
Teacher Alan O'Connor explained that the pupils of the Student Council decided to support a charity with a fund raiser at the end of last year.
'So after some research we decided to get behind homeless charity 'Focus Ireland', having read that there is currently 10,000 homeless people in the country of which, shockingly, 4000 are children.'
'In the end we ran two events, a Christmas bake sale where all of the buns and cakes had been made by the 6th class children and their teachers. We also had a Christmas jumper day which saw the entire school, staff and children came to school in festive jumpers and made a one euro contribution to 'Focus Ireland.'
In the end the Student Council and the school community managed to raise an incredible €1000 for 'Focus' and the fight against homelessness, which they presented last week to the charity.
