THE Cooley Country Market on Sunday, December 1, was a huge success and raised €4,330 for The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre in Rath Abbey, Grange, Carlingford.

Long before the hall doors were officially opened, ladies were appearing, arms laden with delicious freshly baked foods.

There was a fantastic variety of Christmas cakes, puddings, mince pies, and other mouth watering foods.

There was a constant trail to the Parish Hall, with people coming to donate jams, eggs, vegetables, hand knitting, beautiful bric-a-brac, etc.

From early in the day it became very obvious that the people of Cooley and beyond were making it crystal clear that they were going to stand shoulder to shoulder with those living with Alzheimer's disease.

Once the doors of St. Mary's Hall opened at 10.30 a.m., people came in their hundreds to buy goods, drink tea, coffee, mulled wine, and sample the beautiful home baked goods. Many were seen leaving the hall with trays of minerals, home baking, jams and bric-a-brac.

There was great value to be had, with all of the donated goods being sold at reasonable prices. The atmosphere in the hall was magical, laughter rang from the rafters, as each volunteer in the hall worked so enthusiastically, delighted to be doing their bit to make it a success.

When the takings were finally counted, there was a wonderful sense of pride in the hearts of everybody involved.

Those who had donated goods for sale, purchased goods, those who had given prizes for the raffle, and those who had worked so hard in the hall – each person felt that their heart had been enriched.

The organisers would like to express their heartfelt thanks to everybody who donated goods, came and supported the market, and helped on the day.
