Cooley Kickhams U14 girls headed west on Friday morning, June 28, to compete in Feile 2019.

Cooley were playing in Division 3, and were hosted by St Michaels GAA club, Westside, Galway city. Cooley played their first two group games in Athenry on Friday evening.

Their first opponents of the weekend were Loughrea, Galway. Cooley were behind at half time having struggled to settle into the game, however in the second half Cooley got into their stride, holding the opposition scoreless and were convincing winners 3-5 to 2-3.

The second game of the evening was against St Ciaran, Offaly. This went down as one of the best games played over the weekend with spectators in awe of the quality of football played and the fitness and skill levels on display as the Cooley girls grafted a 2-4 to 2-1 victory.

The final group game was played on Saturday morning in Galway city against their host club, St Michaels, Galway. With the arrival of more support from the Peninsula on a glorious morning the girls put on a stunning team performance winning the game 4-6 to 2-1. Cooley topped the group and qualified for the Cup quarter finals.

On Saturday afternoon Cooley headed further West to Kiltimagh, Co Mayo, to face Knockmore. The mood amongst both squad and supporters was positive and rightly so as they stormed to a 4-8 to 0-1 win.

The semi-final of the Cup was played on Sunday morning in Tooreen, Co Mayo against Desertmartin from Derry. A damp morning and a lot of tired legs within the camp didn't deter this group of girls. With the arrival of even more supporters the mood was great within the Cooley camp.

This was another physically tough, end to end closely fought encounter. Scores were exchanged at each end throughout with Cooley finishing the first half on top 0-4 to 0-3. The second half saw both sides score points before Cooley stormed through to find the back of the net. Final Score Cooley 1-5 to Desertmartin 0-5. Cooley had earned a place in the Cup Final.

The Final was played in the Connaught GAA Centre of Excellence, Bekan, Co Mayo against An Charraig Mhor from Tyrone. The Tyrone side started strong with 3 points in succession. Cooley settled and responded with 3 points of their own. An Charraig Mhor finished stronger and added another 1-2 to Cooley's 0-1 to go in a half time 1-5 to Cooley's 0-4. Cooley came out strong in the second half, but scores were very hard won. Cooley added another three points and held the opposition scoreless but ultimately it wasn't meant to be as An Charraig Mhor prevailed by the minimum 1-5 to 0-7

Cooley U14 girls had a wonderful weekend and were perfect ambassadors for Louth Ladies GAA. Their performances over the weekend were simply superb.

It was full squad contributions that seen the girls make it all the way to the Cup Final. Their team spirit, fitness, skill, ball work, determination and respect was a joy to witness.
