Home town, golf and love of machinery were some of Jack's varied interests
Jack (Jackie) Moran 1944-2018
Jack (Jackie) Moran, who died at his home in Bishops Court, Dundalk, on 10 February, 2018, was born on 4-4-44, a date of which he was very proud.
He was a son of the late John and Martha Moran, and is survived by his brother, Tom (London); and was predeceased by his sister, Breda.
Jack went to school in Dundalk CBS, and left aged 15 to attend Dundalk Technical School where he discovered his true calling – machinery, and how to repair and maintain them.
On leaving the Tech, he served his time as a fitter in Corrie & Wells, Church Street. His apprenticeship completed, he went to London to work.
On his return, he married Marie Duffner in 1971, and fathered four children, Aoife, Zita, David and Niall.
His love of machinery lasted all his life, and he was able to diagnose problems by listening to the sounds of engines.
Jack loved Dundalk, and took a great interest in its history and people. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t tell a story about it.
He loved playing golf, and spent many happy days with his buddies in Cloverhill Golf Club.
Holidays in Ibiza were the highlight of his year.
Jack was an independent, resilient man, and was never afraid to air his views.
He fought his illness with a will of iron. He will be sorely missed by his wife and family who loved him deeply.
‘May he rest in peace until we meet again.’ The Month’s Mind Mass takes place on Sunday, 11 March, 2018 in St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church at 12.30pm.
