Great day for Glenmore AC at Cooley Legends event

It was an almost clean sweep across all categories for Glenmore AC Athletes at the Cooley legends Half Marathon and 10k on Saturday April. 6.

In the 10k event Lloyd Byrne (52:34) was first home for Glenmore followed by Paul Flanagan (59:16) and keeping it in the family Kinga Byrne (1:00:03) was first female followed by Margaret Purcell(01:00:38). Well done to all Glenmore AC athletes who completed the Cooley Legends 10k, Sarah Moore, Lorraine McCann, Erin Mc Greghan, Joan Farnon, Rose White, Barry Woods and Edel Connolly.

In the Half Marathon event huge congrats to Shane Toner (01:29:29) who took 2nd place, Donal McMoreland (01:32:36) who took 3rd and also PJ Haynes who achieved 4th position over all.

They were followed over the finish line by Kenneth McBride (01:42:26), Fiona McQuade(02:03:33), John Kane (02:04:26) and Sarah Dooney (02:05:31). Well done to all other Glenmore AC athletes Shane Arnold, Ronan Callan and Emma Ives who ran a great race in perfect conditions.

Big congratulations to all who took category prizes :- In the 10k event Sarah Moore (01:02:54) 2nd O/40F, Lorraine McCann (01:03:31) 3rd O/40F and Margaret Purcell (01:00:38) 1st O/50F Joan Farnon (01:09:19) 2nd O/50F and Rose White (01:09:19)3rd O/50F.

In the half Kenneth McBride (01:42:26), 2nd O/50M, Fiona McQuade (02:03:33) 1stO/50F and Sarah Dooney 2nd O/50F.

A big thank you to Johnny McCabe and his team for putting on a fantastic well organised race with some well deserved treats for all the participants at the finish line.

Saturday evening saw more Glenmore AC athletes competing in the very popular Patsy Kelly 5k road race in Dundalk with just under 800 participants, the atmosphere was buzzing as ever in this very well organised event hosted by NER.

Congratulations to Martin Toner (17:25) followed by Ciaran Walsh (18:15), Tony Ashby (22:47), Ava Ashby (22:47)PB, Cronin O'Shaughnessy (22:58), Sarah Mallon (23:39)PB, Ronan Callan (23:29), Katie Mallon (24:04), Michael Mc Shane (24:22), Peadar Walsh (24:49) and Kevin Carolan (26:06)PB.

Well done to all the other Glenmore AC athletes who competed in this fantastic event, Declan McGlynn, Peter Toner, Carol Gallagher, Ross Griffen, Mellissa McCoy, Ann Rice, Irene McBride, Siobhan Rice, Corina Campbell and Feargal Mallon. Special mention to Ava who also came 4th in her age category and to Ronan who braved the Patsy Kelly 5k after also competing earlier in the day in the Cooley Legends Half marathon.

On Sunday Peter Noone (03:12:29)PB and John Doyle (03:50:56) competed in the Greater Manchester Marathon, a truly fantastic achievement and a highly recommended race by both athletes.

Our next annual event in our 50th anniversary celebratory year is The Glenmore Challenge 10mile + 10k Road Race on the 8th June. This promises to be a fantastic event!
