Catherine (Kitty) Hanks 1924-2017
The death has taken place of Catherine (Kitty) Hanks, Meadow Grove, Dundalk, and late of Hill Street, Dundalk. She passed away peacefully in the Louth County Hospital on 6 December, 2017.
A daughter of the late Peter and Margaret Byrne, Kitty was brought up in Ladywell Terrace and Parnell Park, and attended the Friary School.
She married Jim Hanks and settled in Hill Street, and later moved to Meadow Grove.
Kitty enjoyed knitting and embroidery, and took great joy in her grandchildren and great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jim; daughter, Mairéad; daughter-in-law, Myra; brothers, James, Jack and Peter; and sisters, Vera, Jenny, Madge and Lil.
Kitty is sadly missed by her sons, Sam, and daughter-in-law, Pauline; and Desmond and his partner, Nancy; grandchildren, Alan, Sandra and husband Derek, Jim, Paul and wife Ciara, Dónal and fiancé Rachel; great grand-daughter, Ría; sisters, Briege and Annie; nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours.
Having reposed at her home on 7 December, her remains were removedthe following day to the Redemptorist Church for funeral Mass which was celebrated by Fr. Hoey.
Gifts were presented by Sam and Desmond. Readings were given by Sandra Mulligan and Dónal Hanks, and the prayers of the faithful led by Joan McCabe, Jim Hanks and Alan Hanks.
Music was provided by soloist Sarah McCourt and organist Brendan McCourt.
Burial took place afterwards in St. Patrick’s Cemetery.
