Kilkerley: Parish News - To mark the Baptism of the Lord children who were baptised in 2019, and their families are invited to 10am mass this Sunday for a special blessing.

Refreshments afterwards in the Community Centre. Remember in your prayers, Daragh McNally, Medabawn, Dundalk, Billy Edwards, Antrim.

Baptisms take place every second Sunday of the month at 10.00am mass. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place in the Church each Friday evening from 6.00pm to 7.00pm.

Best wishes to parishioners who are hospitalised or unwell at home presently.

Confirmation for 2020, takes place on Friday, February 28, First Holy Communion for 2020, will take place on May 23.

New readers and Ministers of the Eucharist are needed. Please give your name in to the Parish Office.

Next family tree healing mass is on Monday, next January 13, at 8.00pm. Our Lady Queen of Peace Prayer Group meet on Thursday, January 16, at 7.30pm in Knockbridge Parochial House. Do this in Memory Mass supporting children preparing for first holy communion takes place on Sunday, January 26.


Dancing in the Community Centre this Sunday night, January 12, with music by Twice Shy. Curtis Magee plays on January 19, and Just 2 play on Sunday, January 26. Dancing from 9.00pm to midnight.

The Juvenile AGM takes place on Monday night next January 13, at 8.00pm in the Community Centre. Fr Gene Kirk

Kilkerley native Fr. Gene Kirk from Derryfalone has been a missionary priest in Peru for the past 57 years. Now 85 years of age he is hoping to fulfil one last project for the people he serves in Villa El Salvador, Lima. This project will advance education for the most deprived children in the area. The educational cost per child per year is approx. €520. So far through the help of people in Ireland, Fr. Gene and his team have established a church, health centres, schools and a bakery.

Lourdes Committee

The Armagh Diocesan Pilgrimage to Lourdes takes place from May 7 to May 12, 2020. We are now taking bookings for Assisted Pilgrims, Pilgrims and Youth Workers. The following dates are very important for those intending to travel on the pilgrimage. Deposits have to be in by February 20, and final payments have to be in by March 26. We have no control over those dates as they are set out by Armagh and unfortunately we must strictly adhere to them. Should you require any further information about the pilgrimage please contact Fr. Baptisms take place every fourth Sunday of the month at 11.30am mass. Remember in your prayers Martin Kirke, Lancashire, formerly Stephenstown, Seamus Kerr, Bay Estate, Una McCabe, Monasterboice, Tom Hoey, late of Stephenstown, Billy Edwards, Antrim, who died recently. Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament takes place on Mondays from 10.00am to 10.00pm in the Church followed by Benediction at 10.00p.m. Confessions are available on Mondays before 7.30 Mass and from 9.30pm-10.00pm, at the end of Eucharist Adoration, and at any time by request. Jean McLaughlin from Ardee, has taken up the role of Sacristan since Monday of this week so best wishes to her. Many thanks to the team of volunteers who acted in the interim until a permanent sacristan was appointed. New readers and Ministers of the Eucharist are needed. Those wishing to book the Parish Centre for Funerals and other occasions, must contact Jean Myers directly at 042 9338670. Fr Gerry has asked a Sub Group and a few others to explore the upgrading of the Centre.


Vintage Club agm

The Louth Abbey Vintage Club which had another successful year are holding their A.G.M. this coming Friday evening January 10th commencing at 8.30pm.

All members are requested to attend and new members are welcomed.

Every year since its inception the club have run various events which are enjoyed by everyone and these events help to bring life and business to the area.

This year they erected Christmas lights around the village and this was appreciated by all. We congratulate them on another successful year.

This coming year as well as the usual events they are running a carnival weekend which we know will be a success. As you can imagine to run these events takes up a lot of time and work and the club are appealing for volunteers to help out in any way they can.

If anyone is available to help in any way please attend the A.G.M. or alternatively give your name to any club member.

Please note there is no obligation to become a member. Your help would be appreciated. We hope they get the help they are looking because they deserve it.

Please note light refreshments will be served at the A.G.M.

Health event

A major health information event is taking place this coming Saturday 11th January commencing at 5pm until 7pm in the Community Hub. This is a great chance to kick start 2020 in a healthy fashion. There will be various advisors in attendance such as Blood Pressure checks, Cancer Care, Stroke Nurse, healthy diet as well as lots more advice and tips to live a healthier lifestyle. Entry ticket will cost €10. Refreshments will be served and the first 40 entrants will receive healthy Ireland Gift bags.

Party time

Next Sunday the parish/Christmas new year party will be held in the Community Hub. Everyone is welcome. To help defray the cost a special collections will be taken up at all Masses next Sunday.

Monday morning club

The Monday morning club recommenced after their Christmas break last Monday. We wish them well for the coming year.


New players welcome

For the 2020 football season Naomh Malachí welcomes all players from local area or far away. Anyone who would like to play football at junior level, or for general fitness, is more than welcome to come along and be part of a great club.

Club merchandise

The Naomh Malachi club shop section has been added to the O'Neill's website where you can purchase club merchandise. A portion of the revenue from these sales will go back into the club.

New opening times

In addition to regular Sunday night opening, our clubrooms are also open on Friday evenings from 8 pm till 12 with pool competitions taking place plus big screen entertainment. We encourage all locals to come along and support the club and enjoy a good Friday night's craic.

Halla Naomh Malachí is also available for parties, christenings and other social events, please make enquires to any committee member.
