Christmas Market for Alzheimer Day Care Centre: Christmas, the special time of year which reaches deep into the human soul. A time for caring and showing appreciation for those we hold dear. For Families who have the unwanted guest of Dementia in their lives, Christmas can be a challenging and often lonely time.
The Birches Alzheimer Day Care Centre in Dundalk and Rathabbey, Grange, Carlingford, are expert in reaching out to those who experience the winds of change blow in their lives. Since it's foundation in the year 2000, The Birches has been a welcome crutch for many families. A fountain of knowledge from which they may draw when they need an understanding of the complex condition which is dementia.
As December arrives, Christmas bells toll all over the Cooley Peninsula. The distant sound embraces the true meaning of Christmas and the magic that it brings. It is not all about turkey and tinsel. On Sunday next, December 2, the doors of Cooley Parochial hall will open to welcome all to the annual Cooley Charity Christmas Market.
The market is a coming together of an entire community with input from many local business's and organisations. A raffle will take place on the day of the market. Ireland's top entertainer Mike Denver has donated two tickets to his concert in Armagh. To complete this prize, The Armagh City Hotel have kindly donated a night's accommodation in their hotel for the lucky winner. There will be many other prizes, vouchers and hampers.
The organisers of the market wish to express their thanks to all who have donated items, sponsored goods and provided prizes for the raffle. The groundswell of support received reflects the esteem in which the Birches is held in North Louth.

Bush Post Primary school are holding an exciting new Careers Fair in the school gym on Thursday November from 7pm to 9pm.
This free event will have representations from local and national colleges and universities on hand to give information on courses and answer questions from parents navigating the choppy waters of college life.
There will be stands from Dundalk Institute of Technology; University College Dublin; NUI Maynooth: Dublin City University, Trinity College Dublin, The Southern Regional College Newry, Precision Engineering, The Defence Forces, Post Leaving Certificate Colleges, apprenticeships and many more.
Catherine O'Connor, author of 'Cracking the College Code, will give a talk at 7pm about the challenges posed for young people embarking on college life, how to prepare for the change and getting to know how the system works.
Parents and students from all year groups are encouraged to come along and get some valuable careers information on the night.
Christmas Party Night in Bundoran
A Christmas party trip has been organised to Bundoran from the north-east for the weekend of December 7, 8 and 9.
The travelling group will leave the area on Friday December 7, returning home on Sunday December 9. They will stay in the Great Northern Hotel and the cost includes 2 nights B&B and 2 Christmas Dinners. There will be dancing on both nights.

SVP Christmas Appeal
The Society of St. Vincent de Paul will make their Christmas Appeal next weekend, December 1 and 2, to help those for whom Christmas will be difficult this year!

Flooding at Ravensdale
The recent heavy rain has resulted in flooding along the road at Ravensdale. It is particularly bad on the stretch of road close to the old meat factory, with the footpath submerged in the floodwaters, forcing pedestrians out onto the roadway. Local residents are concerned as the this is a busy stretch of road.
On this coming Friday, November 30, there will be an '8 till 8 Sleep-Out' at the Bush Picnic Area for the Simon Community in Dundalk.
Some speakers from the Dundalk Simon Community will be in attendance on the night to give an insight of the services they provide and the work they do. At 12 midnight a short prayer service will take place for the homeless and for those who lost their lives through homelessness. A lantern will be released into the cold November night sky in their memory.
Sponsorship cards are in circulation at the moment so please donate what you can. If you would like to obtain a sponsorship card and raise funds for this event please contact the Parochial House on 042- 9376105.
Everyone is welcome to attend the sleep-out on the night. If you wish you can pitch a tent on the green but please wrap up as it's going to be cold. Toilet facilities and warm drinks will be available on the night but please remember this is an outdoor event with no shelter.
Christmas Floral Demonstration with Karen Sherwin
Be inspired with a night filled full of festive ideas for the home this Christmas!.
'Be Festive' is the name given to this year's annual floral demonstration which takes place in the Carlingford Heritage Centre on Thursday, December 6, commencing at 8pm. The proceeds go to Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children and Research, Crumlin. Admission is €10.
Karen Sherwin, who is well known across the country as a demonstrator, has also on several occasions represented her country in many prestigious competitions here and in the UK. Bringing home a Chelsea medal to the family run shop where she works is still one of her highest achievements she will say.
Karen will share with you tips and ideas to create the perfect seasonal displays. On the night she will bring you through an array of unique and beautiful designs to get you all in the festive spirit. If not inspired by the end of the evening to create your own all Karen's designs will be raffled off at the end of the night.
Ghan House celebrates a 'Carlingford Christmas'
The Ghan House has organised a "Celebration of a Carlingford Christmas" event for Sunday next, December 2. It gets underway at 12noon and continues until 5pm. Admission is free all day.
This is the 8th annual Christmas event which will be a celebration of everything that the local area has to offer at Christmastime. There will be live festive music, Christmas gifts and vouchers, wine tasting with Winesdirect.ie and kids Christmas cupcake and crafts with Santa. It will be a day to remember!
This year you can also "Meet the Chefs" - Ghan Houses' 2 AA Rosette chefs will be in the lounge all day to give advice, tips, tastings and food to take home.

Carlingford/Omeath Parish Lotto
The Carlingford/Omeath parish lotto draw took place on Tuesday November 13, for a jackpot of €15,000. The numbers drawn were 4, 6, 13 and 19 but the jackpot was not won. There was one 'match three' winners, N. Harold, Carlingford, who receives the €150 prize.
On Tuesday last, November 20, jackpot was €15,000. The numbers drawn were 10, 14, 18 and 22 but the jackpot was not won. There were two 'match three' winners, P. McDonagh and P. Mulligan, Omeath, who share the €150 prize.
The jackpot for this week's draw is €15,000 and the reserve jackpot is €2,250.
Red Cross Christmas Party
The Carlingford/Omeath Red Cross are holding their annual Christmas party for the senior citizens of the Peninsula in the Ballymascanlon Hotel this year.
The event will be held on Sunday December 9 commencing at 6 30pm. The music will be provided by Blue Magic and the donation is €15 00.
Guest Tea for Rosminian Missions
The Rosminian Missions Guest Tea at the Strand Hotel, Omeath, was a big success with a total Intake of €3,206.
The Rosminian Missionary Priests in Tanzania say thank you to all who contributed or helped in anyway: those volunteers who headed a table, the Strand Hotel who hosted the event, the Granvue who provided the food and those who sponsored prizes.

Concert with David Martin
Omeath Tidy Towns present Tenor David Martin and guests in the Dolmen Centre on Sunday December 9. There is a pre-concert reception from 7.00pm. Tickets are available from Mulligan's Corner House or at the door on the night.

The Omeath Youth Club Annual Christmas Party takes place on Sunday December 16 in the Dolmen Centre, Omeath, from 3-5pm. Santa will arrive at 4.00pm, admission is free and all are welcome.

St. Patrick's Jackpot rises to €7,200
There was no winner of the St. Patrick's lotto jackpot of €7,000 when the draw took place in the complex at Lordship on Thursday night last, November 22.
The numbers drawn were 3, 16, 27 and 32. There were no 'match 3' winners and the five lucky dip winners were Kevin McEneaney c/o Rose McEneaney; Mark Johnston c/o Sean Crilly; Sarah and Aoife Hoey c/o Geoffrey Hoey; Gerry Rooney c/o Sheelan's shop; Maria White, Bellurgan.

St Patrick's GFC AGM
The St Patrick's GFC Annual General Meeting will take place on Monday night next, December3, commencing at 8pm in the complex.
The annual Christmas party in the Parish of Lordship and Ballymascanlon takes place in Ravensdale Community Centre on Sunday next, December 2. It commences at 3pm, there is a full Christmas lunch and everyone is welcome.
During the afternoon a presentation will be made to those priests in acknowledgement of their help and assistance in the parish over the past few years. These include Fr. Padraig Murphy, Fr. Linus Dube, Fr. Brian MacRaois, Fr. Malachy Conlon, Fr. Oliver Stanfield and Fr. Christy McElwee.
Social Dancing at Lordship
Social Dancing continues in the St Patrick's Community Centre, Lordship, on this coming Friday, November 30.
Dancing is from 9.30pm to 12.30am and the music will be by the Blue Magic Band. A light supper will be served, admission is €10 and everyone is welcome!

Cooley Kickhams minor girls beat St Patricks in Fr McEvoy Park in the semi-final of the under 18 championship. The final score was 4-10 to 1-3. At half time St. Patrick's led by 1-2 to 0-4.
